Insights from “Food Waste No More” workshop at Kerry Science Festival
On November 16th, 2024, the MainstreamBIO Project officially launched the second round of its Awareness Raising Campaign with the “Food Waste No More” Workshop at the MTU Kerry North Campus. Held as part of the Kerry Science Festival, this engaging event brought together 41 families and 60 children to tackle food waste creatively and collaboratively while promoting sustainable living practices.
The workshop provided an interactive platform for participants to learn, innovate, and connect over critical topics like food waste prevention, renewable energy, biodiversity, and sustainable systems.
Key activities included:
- LEGO Workshop: Young minds were inspired to design innovative solutions for a sustainable future, blending fun with education.
- Interactive Discussions: Topics such as food waste and the role of families in advancing sustainability were explored.
- Recognition and Rewards: Participants received certificates for their involvement, and the most imaginative solutions were celebrated with special awards.
The workshop was more than an event; it was a step towards cultivating Ireland’s next generation of sustainability champions. By actively involving children and their families, the event highlighted practical approaches to reducing food waste while aligning local actions with global sustainability goals.
