Swedish workshop explores new pathways for scaling-up bio-based solutions
On September 17, 2024, MainstreamBIO held a successful scale-up workshop in Umeå, Sweden, hosted by RISE Processum. This workshop brought together nine participants from industry, academia, and business to foster collaboration and advance bio-based solutions in Sweden’s bioeconomy sector.
Participants discussed MainstreamBIO’s goals and toolkit, followed by presentations from Linda Magdalena Jonsson of Alder Olmai and Thomas Storsjö of BioCompost, who shared how MainstreamBIO’s support has been pivotal in addressing bioeconomy challenges.
Key discussions focused on common scaling barriers—such as access to infrastructure and market complexity—and potential pathways for regional scaling. Proposed solutions included closer collaborations with universities, infrastructure sharing, and streamlined regulatory processes to support bio-based ventures.
The event closed with participants voicing a strong interest in future collaborative workshops, reinforcing the importance of knowledge exchange in supporting Sweden’s journey toward a sustainable bioeconomy.
